Noise Complaints and Violations
Enforcement of noise regulations is shared by the City of Asheboro Police Department and the Community Development Division.
A violation occurs if the noise is determined to be generally or expressly prohibited or if the sound exceeds the specified limits established by the code. Sound that is unreasonably loud and disturbing to the quiet enjoyment and use of residentially occupied property can constitute a violation. Noise decibel levels may be monitored as part of any investigation.
Criteria for determining whether a noise violation exists are:
- Whether the noise is occurring during daytime or nighttime hours;
- The noise volume and intensity (note: may include decibel level);
- Whether the noise has been enhanced in volume or range by any type of megaphone, amplifier, or other mechanical means;
- The nature and zoning of the area;
- The frequentness and duration of the noise;
- The proximity of the noise to residentially occupied property; and
- Whether the noise is at an intensity level or at a duration as to be detrimental to the life or health of any individual.
